About the Role
We are looking for a hands-on scientist ready to take the next step into leadership.
In this role, you will lead from the lab while mentoring a small team. You will drive your own research projects while guiding a team of 4 scientists and technicians (5 total including you), helping turn new ideas into real technologies that support Sunstar’s long-term growth.
This role is ideal for someone who:
• Has early industry experience (typically 3–8 years)
• Enjoys solving complex technical problems
• Is ready to begin leading people while staying hands-on
What You’ll Do
• Lead hands-on research in advanced materials and new technologies
• Guide and mentor a small team (4 direct reports)
• Develop new ideas with long-term business impact
• Collaborate with product development, manufacturing, and business teams
• Communicate results clearly and move projects forward
• Contribute to Sunstar’s global innovation efforts
What We’re Looking For
Required:
• Ph.D. (or equivalent experience) in polymer science, materials science, chemistry, or related field
• 3–8 years of industry or applied research experience
• Strong problem-solving skills and creativity in research
• Interest in mentoring and developing others
• Ability to clearly communicate technical ideas
Preferred:
• Experience with adhesives, coatings, sealants, or polymers
• Experience leading projects or mentoring others
• Track record of innovation (patents, products, publications)
