Purpose of the Position:

The Counter Sales is responsible for selling welding equipment and supplies to customers using technical knowledge of welding techniques and metal working process. They will provide support to other internal departments such as Inside Sales / Customer Service, Sales and Distribution. They will field and assist incoming customer calls.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Sell welding equipment, materials, and supplies to customers within company pricing guidelines using technical knowledge, advising, and trouble-shooting problems
  • Field all incoming calls and route to appropriate personnel
  • Create order entries for customer requests and coordinate delivery schedules
  • Consult manuals/references/technical books and share pertinent information with personnel as appropriate
  • Work with customers and vendors to expedite or locate missing, misrouted, delayed or damaged merchandise
  • Sell and assist customers with cylinder transactions and various programs
  • Handle customer complaints
  • Restock merchandise by labeling products, applying bar codes, pricing products, replacing with seasonal items, etc.
  • Assemble products for demo displays
  • Maintain cleanliness of store and demo room to ensure safety of all employees, vendors and visitors
  • Perform warehouse procedure(s), such as picking orders from the carousel, as needed
  • Assist customers when necessary, providing copies of invoices, statements or tickets

Other Responsibilities:
  • Perform other job duties as assigned and fill in for other employees in their absence

Education, Experience and Skills:
  • High School diploma or equivalency
  • Previous customer service and sales experience is a plus
  • Basic knowledge of welding and gases industry preferred
  • Must be a team player and works well with others
  • Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite and previous ERP experience desired
  • Possess good reasoning skills making decisions based upon facts, good math aptitude, and have high attention to detail
  • Must be organized and have ability to multitask helping walk-in customers, phone calls and internal employees
  • Demonstrate professionalism, excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to adjust and interact with all levels of personnel
Equipment Used:
  • Forklift, 2-wheel dollies, liquid carts and pallet jacks
  • Standard office equipment, computer programs and technical manuals
  • Handle various hand and power tools such as drills, screwdriver, box cutters, scanners, etc.
  • Safety gear such as safety boots, safety glasses, gloves, etc. as applicable

Job Specifications/Requirements:
Ability to stand on your feet 7 to 8 hours a day with lots of walking, twisting, bending, reaching, lifting/carrying, grasping and repetitive motions; occasional sitting and climbing. Frequent lifting of 20-25lbs is required, may at times lift up to 75lbs. Reoccurring Pushing/pulling of 25lbs up to 75lbs. Ability to work in moderately warm or cold conditions where high noise levels are possible. Willingness to travel as necessary for training, seminars, and other branch coverage.

The hourly range for this position is $18.52/hour - $27.79/hour. Pay is dependent on several factors including relevant work experience and internal equity.
