JOB SUMMARY
The HR Director will develop, implement, and coordinate policies and programs concerning payroll, training and development, employment, employee benefits, wage and salary administration, and employee services. Reporting directly to the CEO/Executive Director and working closely with senior management staff who have substantial expertise in their areas of oversight, the HR Director will provide HR support to employees and leaders at SVDP’s seven thrift stores, service and administration center, and distribution facility. The HR Director supervises one HR Generalist to support HR functions across the organization. The HR Director role is an essential component of the organization's ability to offer life-changing impacts for people who need it most.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop, maintain, and implement personnel policies, practices, and procedures that comply with labor law and are consistent with corporate philosophies and culture. Assists senior management in the implementation of policies and programs established by the Council and its Board of Directors.
- Develop, monitor, and report on employee data and analytics to inform decision making, spot workforce trends, and drive continuous improvement.
- Implement effective strategies for attracting, sourcing, recruiting, and evaluating qualified job candidates that support the recruiting efforts of store managers and set and maintain a high bar for talent.
- Design, implement, and monitor Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity plans and ensure employment and personnel practices are in compliance with state laws.
- Direct and coordinate activities designed to promote and maintain a high level of employee morale and engagement.
- Support the business by creating systems and processes that align people and processes with business objectives, help individuals, teams, and the organization thrive, and foster a high level of employee morale and engagement.
- Develop and implement programs, practices, and policies that foster a diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment where all employees have opportunities to reach their full potential.
- Oversee payroll processes, ensuring the accurate calculation of total wage earnings, withholding deductions, filing payroll taxes, and delivering payment.
- Overseethe organization’s compensation and benefits programming, ensuring internal equity and competitiveness with the market, as well as alignment with the organization’s financial resources, strategic direction, and talent needs.
- Administer FMLA, accommodations, and other leaves of absence requests.
- Lead employee relations actions, including corrective action, performance improvement, investigations, and associated concerns.
- Oversee a performance management system that aligns departmental and job-specific goals with organization priorities, fosters accountability and employee development, and helps managers bring out the best in employees.
- Develop and implement frameworks to support employee growth and development in support of succession planning and overall organizational success.
- Establish themselves as a positive resource by maintaining a regular presence at each of the SVdP locations.
- Partner with department and store managers to implement standardized onboarding and orientation programs that give new employees a sense of belonging and purpose, assimilate them into the community quickly, and set them up for long-term success with the organization.
- Act as a champion of safety in the workplace, supporting programs, training, and tools that keep employees engaged in safety initiatives, effectively meeting compliance requirements alongside the Safety Manager, and regularly communicating results to leadership.
- Participate in an atmosphere of teamwork and collaboration, listening, fostering dialogue, and facilitating joint problem solving while supporting an inclusive and equitable organization.
- Oversee the Safeguarding Policy for employees, ensuring enrollment for training and completion of background checks for designated new employees and scheduled retraining for continuing employees.
- Adhere to the Safeguarding Policy by ensuring timely completion of mandatory training, staying updated on relevant training modules, and undergoing the necessary background checks to maintain compliance.
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS & KEYS TO SUCCESS

Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management, Business Administration, or a similar program, or relevant training and experience.
- Seven years relevant experience in Human Resources with a minimum of 2 years experience leading the HR function for an organization.
- Experience working in an organization with widely varied staff positions for both nonexempt and exempt positions (i.e. production, retail, human services, administration).
- Senior Professional Human Resources (SPHR) or SHRM-SCP certification preferred.
- Demonstrate the ability to communicate and effectively interact with people across ranges of abilities, ethnicities, and races.
- Demonstrate the implementation of best practices as required by the SVdP Safeguarding policy when interacting with children and vulnerable adults.
- For the safety of the clients SVdP serves and as per the Safeguarding Policy, this position requires the successful completion of a criminal background check and references.

- Proficiency with Windows operating system, Microsoft Office products, Google applications, and a wide variety of HR applications, including but not limited to HRIS, ATS, payroll administration, and performance management software. Experience with HR software implementation preferred.
- Knowledge of relevant human resources-related laws and regulations.
- Experience with payroll administration and applicable software. Proficiency with Paylocity and its various modules is strongly preferred.
- Experience successfully managing/overseeing a safety management program.
- Ability to travel to multiple sites on a regular basis. Overnight travel on rare occasions.
- Proven ability to maintain trust and credibility with employees at all levels in the organization.
- Collaborative work style with the ability to identify opportunities for improvement, develop strategies, influence decision-makers, and implement solutions.
- Self-starter that enjoys both shaping strategic direction as well as doing hands-on tactical work.
