GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB:
The Shipper/ Receiver is responsible for creating a safe and organized work environment that allows for the efficient flow of materials and products into and out of the organization.  Receive, store and issues materials as needed for efficient product production. Coordinate shipping process including appropriate paperwork, scheduling trucks and staging information as needed. Individual in this role is detail oriented in ensuring products are shipped and received according to bill of lading and packing slips. This individual is a part of a team environment focused on safely creating products and services that meet and exceed our customers’ expectations in an efficient manner. This position collaborates with management and manufacturing personnel ensuring an excellent product to the customer.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The following statements reflect the general details necessary to describe the major functions of this position and are not intended to be a detailed description of all the work/functions that may be required. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Examine shipment contents and compare with records, such as manifests, invoices, or orders, to verify accuracy.
  • Record shipment data, such as weight, charges, space availability, damages, or discrepancies, for reporting, accounting, or recordkeeping purposes.
  • Prepare documents, such as work orders, bills of lading, or shipping orders, to route materials.
  • Confer or correspond with establishment representatives to rectify problems, such as damages, shortages, or nonconformance to specifications.
  • Pack, seal, label, or affix postage to prepare materials for shipping, using hand tools, power tools, or postage meter.
  • Contact carrier representatives to make arrangements or to issue instructions for shipping and delivery of materials.
  • Deliver or route materials to departments using hand truck, forklift, or sorting bins.
  • Requisition and store shipping materials and supplies to maintain inventory of stock.
  • Determine shipping methods, routes, or rates for materials to be shipped.
  • Coordinate truck scheduling with Plant Manager and Office Manager or their designee.
  • Compute amounts, such as space available, shipping, storage, or demurrage charges, using computer or price list.
  • Compare shipping routes or methods to determine which have the least environmental impact                   
  • Verify inventory computations by comparing them to physical counts of stock and investigate discrepancies or adjust errors.
  • Keep record of and dispose of damaged or defective items or return them to vendors.
  • Clean and maintain supplies, tools, equipment, and storage areas to ensure compliance with safety regulations.
  • Prepare and maintain records and reports of inventories, price lists, shortages, shipments, expenditures, and goods used or issued.                      
  • Responsible for daily forklift and hand truck maintenance checks requesting maintenance and retraining as needed.
  • Responsible for coordinating the safety program.  This includes ensuring MSDS sheets are updated, and weekly safety material is circulated.
  • Safely and efficiently create a work environment that enables an efficient flow of materials and products into and out of the facility.   Responsible for performing all work tasks in a safe manner and in accordance with organizational safety policies and requesting maintenance as needed.
  • Required to be a team player and collaborate with various departments to meet customer satisfaction.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
  • One to Three months experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM) software, preferred.
  • Knowledge of ERP system, preferred.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office (word, outlook and excel), preferred.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
  • Driver’s License, preferred.
  • Forklift certification, required.
     
LANGUAGE SKILLS
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. 
  • Ability to write simple correspondence. 
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
     
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. 
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.

  • The normal work environment is a manufacturing facility.
  • Noise in the manufacturing environment is moderately loud with machinery and forklift traffic.
