Job Statement:

Uses hands and light tools to assemble electrical wiring harnesses and cable assemblies. Performs tasks in the areas of lead preparation, harness/cable assembly and testing. Works under direct supervision of a line leader.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Selection, placement, and formation of wire lead on harness form-boards.
  • Application of cable tie fasteners using hand-held manual and pneumatically operated tools. These tools may require squeezing and/or trigger operation.
  • Application of various types of insulation, tubing and braided sleeve over wires and related operations such as application of electrical tape or heat shrinking using a heat gun up to 1000 degrees.
  • Plugging terminated wires into connector housing. This requires the identification of the proper connector cavity, pushing of terminated wire into cavity and pulling on wire to verify proper retention.
  • Use of simple hand tools such as wire cutting pliers, long nose pliers, wire strippers, manual, pneumatic, and electric screwdrivers to assemble electrical components.
  • Braiding harnesses, using the braider machine and standing for long periods of time, and using a hot knife to cut the braided sleeve.
  • Testing of completed wiring harnesses. This involves connection of the harness to a test fixture, proper interpretation of good/bad test indicator, marking tested units with a rubber stamp, and disconnection of the harness from the fixture.
  • Miscellaneous other assembly duties as assigned by supervisor or management.

OPTIONAL DUTIES

  • Soldering wires to electrical components using a hand soldering iron. Or tin dipping wire into solder pot to protect the wire strands.

  • Good manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
  • Ability to see and differentiate colors. Corrected vision that allows reading of small alphanumeric letters at a distance of 12-18 inches.
  • Able to lift boxes containing materials and finished goods up to 20 pounds.
  • Ability to use fingers to push and pull wires into connectors with forces of up to 2 pounds.
  • Ability to use hands and fingers to mate and de-mate connectors with forces of up to 5 pounds.
  • Ability to work while standing (some tasks require standing all day).
  • Ability to communicate adequately with supervisor.
  • Ability to maintain a brisk pace and meet generally accepted production rates.

Education / Experience

  • Prior assembly experience required.

  • Reading ability sufficient to identify labels correctly and read simple instructions.
  • Cooperative attitude towards co-workers, leader and supervisor.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Well lit, air conditioned, and heated manufacturing facility. Low to moderate noise level. Wire/cable and terminal debris and compressed air tools. While performing the essential duties of the job the employee will either be seated at a work bench or stand on a concrete floor.

HAZARDS

Compressed air, electrical shock, cutting (sharp objects), and heat (hot items).
