CNC Boring Bar Operator/Machinist - 2nd Shift
Duties/Responsibilities
- Program and/or modify computer programs.
- Set up, adjust and operate various sizes of horizontal boring bars to bore, mill and drill a wide variety of work maintaining a high degree of accuracy and strict tolerances.
- Set-up which includes aligning and securing large irregular work pieces having several interrelated dimensions, using jib cranes, 10-ton crane, straps and magnets.
- Select speeds and feeds, tooling and operational sequences; lay out reference points and boring location.
- Observe drilling or boring machine operations to detect any problems.
- Verify conformance of machined work to specifications,
- Use drawings and a wide variety of precision measuring instruments.
- Exhibit proficient knowledge of machine shop practices, techniques, programming, machine operation and tooling.
- Knowledge of machine processes and other techniques for maximizing efficiency during the machining of parts.
- Measure and examine completed units to check for defects and ensure conformance to specifications, using precision instruments, such as micrometers and calipers.
- Maintain machine tools in proper operational condition.
- Evaluate machining procedures and recommend changes or modifications for improved efficiency or adaptability.
- Confer with engineering, supervisory, or manufacturing personnel to exchange technical information.
Technology Skills
- Fanuc G-code, M-code, computer programming and modifications.

- Mathematics— Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications.
- Production and Processing — Knowledge of machine processes and other techniques for maximizing efficiency during the machining of parts.
- Knowledge — Knowledge of techniques, tools, and precision principles involved in the production of parts utilizing blueprints and/or drawings.

- Attention to Detail — The ability to be careful about detail and thorough in completing work tasks.

Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds on a regular basis.
- Must be able to manipulate large parts with a crane using hooks, straps and magnets.
- Must have manual dexterity including standing, bending, stooping, and reaching.
- Must have excellent hand-eye coordination.
- Safety glasses and steel toe shoes are required.
